My dad has accidentally ran into some wormy oak. The tree had to come down
before it hit a fence. While sawing up the top he discoverd it to be all
wormy white oak. An internet search turned up some flooring distributors,
but none would talk about buying a log. Guess they wanted in kiln dried,
sawed and delivered. Oh well, this is just a shot in the dark
but........does anyone know a timber buyer or logger around the NewAlbany,
Indiana area that might like a shot at this. The log is intact and did not
split on fall. Dimensions31' long, 37" dia. butt end, 25" small end. No
attempt thus far has been made to cut into to see if the entire trunk is
wormy. If anyone is interested I will obtain pics and post. I personally
have not seen it but plan to soon. It gets dark by the time I get off work
each day. I welcome any suggestions or leads. Best offer so far is a local
bandsaw man that will cut it know charge for half the lumber. Failing that
or other options it will be cut up for firewood. Somebody somewhere needs
this log and my dad could stand to sell it. It's just getting these two
people together. There's thought for a business.........brokering wood on
the internet. I quess I'll put my two weeks notice in. Not! Appalachian
woods sells wormy red oak for about $9.00 a square foot. Somebody must use
this stuff. We have tractors and all and would assist in loading if
necessary. Thanks in advance for any help you all may be able to provide.
