How does one do something like what is happening here? Surely some
*** is not sitting typing out all these nonsensical posts! Does
not look like a program to just put random words from a dictionary
together either. I am computer ignorant and have no idea how to
"killfile" this stuff, either

The software used to built the Internet is all available.
Not only that, but there are dozens of packages that do the same thing.
People can take this software and change it in any way they want to.
Some people create libraries to make writing software really really easy.

Programs use these and write code that instead of doing something once,
it does it thousands of times.

It's turtles - all the way down.

Firefox is a browser. What you need to use is a dedicated news browser
program. I prefer a text-based news reader. I never have to use a
mouse. 95% of the time I press either "n" to skip the current article,
or "<spacebar>" to read it. "k" kills that subject. if I want to skip
more than one.

If that's how you interpret "killfile anything crossposted to two or
more groups, as identified by (blah)", then, sorry there sparky, well,
maybe you're not 'smat' enough to figure out teh intertubes, but, if you
want a fix, killfile as I described. If you want to just complain
though, carry on as you are. (shrug) doesn't matter to me. The tools
have been handed to you, if you choose to not use them, that's nobody's
problem but your own.

Well, here's the deal. AOL gets you connected to the internet. They're
no different than any local dialup internet provider even though they
pretend to be. Once you make a connection to the internet, you're _in_.
Once you're in, any application you use can be used to access anything
on the internet.

AOL tries to hide this from you, because they want to pretend that the
Internet is just another keyword in AOL. It's not.

So. Once you dial in and get connected to the Internet, you can get
firefox as a browser, and access the REAL internet, not the AOL'ish
version. Download the firefox browser, install it, you'll be fine,
millions of us use it and it's completely legit.

Now, you have firefox. Open up AOL, get the connection to the internet,
then fire up Firefox. Welcome to the _real_ internet, not the "here's
what we want you to see" internet. You now have access to everything.
If you'ure running Windows, go to http://www.google.com and enter "forte
download" into the search box. Download and install it. This will get
you a newsreader that supports killfiles. Get it running, then ask for
help.

Once you're running forte' on the real internet, you can filter out all
the spam you want, including the crossposts that are the bane of
legitimate conversations.
