Hi people,

I just recently bought a small used lawn tractor for weed control. No
lawns but millions of tumbleweed.

We also have an abundance of 3-pointed prickles. The spines are long
enough to puncture the Tubeless Lawn Tires between the tread blocks. I
can't find any chunky 15 x 6 x 6 tires and I am fast getting sick of
repairing 3 to 5 holes at a time. The tractor only does 5mph at it's
fastest.

Anyone have any suggestions on foam or sealants etc that will convert
these to puncture-proof?

Thanks

Dave

We used to install a flexible boot or belt that went against the tire
inside. It would stop and break off the tips of the thorns. Then run an
inner tube inside that.

Was it a commercial item or just some rubber sheeting? If commercial
where can I find it?

I am looking for 6 x 6 tubes but no success so far.

Good grief! If your yard is killing your lawn tractor, I'd vote for
finding some used agent orange or worse instead of mowing. Outside of
that you should be able to get the tires foam filled which should end
the problem.

Call a local forklift place, they can foam them.

A little diesel fuel, a weed sprayer, and a match. Redneck lawn
mowing! Advanced Rednecks cut the diesel 50/50 with gasoline.

The place I work at uses silicone in fan drives. I've seriously
considered filling my leaky snow blower tires with scrap silicone
fluid.

Really advanced Rednecks just plant a little pot and let the DEA spray
the whole area with Roundup.

Perhaps try a foaming urethane... that might cost you, I think there
are some fix-aflat type products out there that would completely fill
the small tires. p.s. make sure you deflate the tire before you fill
it... plus it might not hurt to unscrew the valve stem on the deflated
tire so you can get the most material inside.

I've used the Green Slime stuff you can get at the chain auto parts
places for tires with slow leaks and non-repairable leaks, it works.
Doesn't make the tire puncture-proof but it won't leak air afterwards.
A bit messy when you finally do change the tires, too. You have to
pull the valve cores, pump the stuff in and then reinflate. Drive
around a bit to distribute the goodie and it's done.

I'm not sure if you can get solid tires in that size, Northern Tool has
a variety that you could look over, though. Surplus Center might be
another source, they frequently have mower parts.

Our Show Low lawn (Linden area) was beautiful. No
goat thorns at all.
San Carlos was crazy with 'em though. I used to
do some mountain biking, and a standard tube would
last about 5 minutes.

The green slime stuff held up for about a year.
Sometimes I'd pull the goatheads out, but usually not.
After that year came many months I didn't ride at all,
and next time I did inflate the tires, they only stayed
inflated for about 15 minutes or so.
I don't know if the slime stuff eventually hardens
or what, but FWIW, it did hold up against an ever
increasing number of thorns for that first year.
