Hope someone here can help. I just bought 3 compressors as a lot at an
auction and am looking for some place where I could download
manuals/parts diagrams for them. I don't know if that is likely as
they are older.
The pictures are at http://tinyurl.com/l3xtm
I paid $400 CDN for all three.
First is a Kellogg, model 321TV, 2 hp, 2 stage.
Second is a Brunner, model H24, 2 stage.
Third is a Devilbiss model TAS-8051, 7.5 hp 3 phase, 2 stage.
Would be greatly appreciated if someone could point me in the right
direction.

You got a great deal. If you need a 25 scfm compressed air dryer for
it, let me know. Devilbiss should be still in business, Kellogg is out
of business.

I'm pretty happy with the buy. I do need a few bits. I'm looking for
a place to get some reasonably priced pressure switches for 2 of them.
I'm also undecided on what to do with the motor on the Devilbiss. It's
a 3 phase 7.5 hp. I might try looking for a 5 or 7.5 hp single phase
for it.
Don't really have room for a dryer (actually I don't really have room
for the compressor either but it was too good a deal to pass up). The
garage is getting pretty full between the foundry setup, metalworkikng
equipment and woodworking tools.

Rotary phase converter of course!

I'm giving that some serious thought but the garage/shop is bursting at
the seams, I was hoping for something that would take up a little less
space. May be the way to go.
Does anyone know what size of circuit I'd need to run a 7.5 hp motor
off a rotary phase converter? Right now I've got a 220 volt, 40 amp
circuit that I setup for a future air compressor when I wired the shop.
Didn't anticipate getting something this large though and don't know
if it will suffice.
Thanks,
Al

You can get a 5 HP single phase motor and change the pulley to a
smaller pulley. Those run about $250 on ebay, and less if you can look
around and scrounge, change bearings etc.
As for the garage bursting at the seams, remember that your idler
motor can be located outside the garage, it does not have to be close
to the rest of the phase converter's circuitry.

I would think that for compressor duty, you would need a 15 HP idler
to run a 7.5 hp compressor.
40 amps seems to be insufficient on its face, so you would need a 60a
circuit.

I would try to find a single phase 5 HP motor, for the compressor, if
it can be run slower. In the long run it is better, less space used,
less hassle, fewer things to go wrong etc etc. It would probably be ok
with your existing motor starter, also, unless you are wired for 440v
now.
If my comment is off the mark due to special canadian voltages, I
apologize.

That was one of the options considered and I think this is what I've
decided to do. I found the specs on the pump (Devilbiss is now Devair
and they had some info I downloaded) and with 5 hp and running at 635
rpm the pump should deliver 20 cfm at 125 psi. This should be more
than enough for me for now.

That's a great delivery rate for 5 HP, almost a little difficult to
believe. Replacing the motor should be easy, a 5 HP Baldor has a 213T
frame and with luck, your 3 phase motor has the same frame also.
